Child's Voice is a non-public auditory oral program where children, birth to age 7, who are deaf or hard of hearing learn to listen and use spoken language to communicate. The school was founded by a group of dedicated and determined parents who believed that children with hearing loss should have the opportunity to learn to talk.
As the only state approved auditory oral program in Northern Illinois, our goal is helping children who are profoundly deaf or hard of hearing optimize their listening, speech, language, academic skills and their self-confidence so that they can be successful in a mainstream educational setting and society in general.
The key to our successful program is an innovative curriculum developed by Jean Moog, the internationally recognized leader in deaf education. This award-wining curriculum, developed by Moog while she was the principal of Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis (CID), has twice been recognized for excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
