General Information

The goal of the Early Intervention Program is to increase the child's awareness of spoken language so the child can begin to develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively and intelligibly without the use of sign language. Parent education is also an important facet of the Early Intervention Program, providing training for parents to become proper facilitators of their child's education.

Parents and therapists aim to consistently engage the child as frequently as possible in verbal activities, introduce the child to new vocabulary or concepts in the course of everyday living, provide the child with a range of vivid, different experiences that contrast with everyday living while extending vocabulary, and by using every opportunity to respond in an appropriate way to the child's verbalizations during activities.
