The Child's Voice School Program serves children ages three to seven. The children are at school from 8:30 until 2:45 each day. The children receive speech, language, and auditory training services everyday in a small group of 2-3 children. They receive age-appropriate academic and social activities in a large group setting of 10-12 children. All of the teachers in the School Program are orally-trained Teachers of the Deaf.
Students are pulled out of the classroom for individualized Speech Therapy or Counseling, according to their Individualized Education Plan goals.
The school year runs from August through June with an optional 5-week extended school year program in June and July.
The School Program consists of two levels, Primary I and Primary II. Primary I serves children ages three through five. Primary II serves children ages five through seven.
The students of Primary I and II are exposed to activities similar to a public school, such as Gym and Music. The students have Gym each day, participating in a variety of teacher-led gross motor activities. The students also go to Music once a week, where they learn to sing, play instruments and appreciate music.
The students go on field trips around the Chicago area. These field trips provide real-world experience with vocabulary and concepts learned in the classroom.
